Since the consecration of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir, Ayodhya has become one of the most visited pilgrim cities in India. The city has new roads, a new airport and a rebuilt railway station — and with a little planning, darshan is comfortable even for elders.
How to reach Ayodhya
- By air: Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhya, with flights from major cities.
- By train: Ayodhya Dham Junction, including Vande Bharat trains from Delhi and Lucknow.
- By road: about 2.5–3 hours from Lucknow and 4–5 hours from Varanasi.
Before you go for darshan
- Mobile phones, bags, electronic items and leather goods are not allowed inside — use the free locker facility near the entry.
- Dress modestly and comfortably; you will walk a fair distance and climb steps.
- Early morning is the calmest time. Festivals (Ram Navami, Deepotsav) and weekends are very crowded.
- Darshan timings and entry rules are updated by the temple trust from time to time — check the latest before you go.
Temples to visit in Ayodhya
- Hanuman Garhi — by tradition, devotees pray here before Ram Lalla darshan.
- Kanak Bhawan — the beautiful temple of Sita–Ram.
- Dashrath Mahal — the palace of King Dashrath.
- Nageshwarnath Temple — an ancient Shiva temple.
- Ram ki Paidi and the Sarayu ghats — for the evening aarti and a peaceful walk.
How many days?
One full day covers the main temples. A two-day stay lets you attend the evening Sarayu aarti and do early-morning darshan without rushing — ideal for families with elders.
